First up was the Moby wrap, or in this case a similar wrap made by a different company, the Moby having hidden itself. The idea behind the wrap is that either parent can carry the infant close to the skin for comfort and convenience, leaving both hands free. The infant likes the closeness, the parent likes the freedom of movement, so it works out well for all.
Well sort of. I didn't follow the instructional video quite right. See the daylight gap above Edward's head? That shouldn't be there, he should be nestled between the two layers of the folded wrap, and I had both layers on the outside. That may explain the slightly concerned look on his face. Ah well, I've got it now, and this looks like being a very useful system for us both, and we've got three different ones in case of spit-up (dark spot on t-shirt) or other stains.
Discarding the low-tech wrap for now we went high-tech with the Bob stroller. Our chosen stroller has big pneumatic wheels for ride comfort, and ease of getting up and down kerbs etc.
It was looking overcast when we set out, so we put up the two hoods which keep Ed dry in his own little bubble of warmth and cosiness.
This picture then is not of Edward under a few inches of water, but seen through the wrinkled shiny plastic parent-view visor. He still has his eyes open now, but soon drifted off to sleep, lulled by the joggling stroller and his warm layers. It's easier for a human eye to see through the visor than it is for the camera, by the way.
I took the stroller for the outward journey, along Sweetwater and down Sabrena, and Beth took over for the return leg. We think those big joints between the concrete pavers woudl cause jolts in a small hard-wheeled stroller, but the Bob rode them with ease.
This was Beth's first outing since the birth too, so we kept it short. You can see a small storage space under the stroller, which will hold a daiper bag and not much else.
Ed slept through it all. I'm hoping to take Ed out for a stroll every day now, to stretch my legs and get him used to things outside.
