Sleeping like a Baby

A question we occasionally get asked about Edward is "How is he sleeping?".

Being just 3 weeks old he is sleeping like a baby, which is to say waking every 2-3 hours for a feeding and most likely a diaper change. The periods of feeding, sleeping and wakefulness are lengthening gradually as he gets bigger (9lbs 4oz today), but we most likely won't get an undisturbed night for some weeks or possibly months yet. As a consequence we are both in a state of constant overtiredness, and not in the best mood when well-meaning folk nag us about how the baby is sleeping. So please don't ask. When he starts sleeping through the night we will let you know.

What we are observing is more deliberate eye control, the ability to hold his head up for longer periods, and strong legs that, if he had the balance, are quite capable of supporting his weight. He's also getting a little fussier, crying a little more and harder to console, and while we abhor the use of pacifiers for older children, we've started using one at home when he wants a finger to suck, because it's not easy, comfortable or convenient letting him suck on even the littlest of fingers  for half an hour at a time.

He's getting tummy time every day, and we've ordered a playmat with things that dangle from arches for him, so that'll give him something more to focus on.
