A couple of weeks ago we started using cloth diapers, the pocket kind as the covers were lovely and colorful. Unfortunately we kept getting liquid leaks with the pocket diapers, and found that the material was just shedding water like a duck's back, so no wonder.
After reverting to disposables for a while we've now turned to pre-fold diapers, which we also had ready for use. These have a waterproof cover that secures with either poppers of velcro, and an absorbent liner in the form of a square of material that you fold into three lengthwise and put inside the cover. A benefit of these is that if the poop doesn't get onto the cover you can reuse it, and just change out the liner. With the pocket style you have to wash both cover and liner after each use. A drawback is that liquids remain in contact with Edward's skin for longer - we rarely take a diaper off him (and we check virtually every two hours day and night) without finding he's had a pee.
The prefolds are working well, and every night we have a nice bucketful of used liners to wash. We have disposables in reserve for outings, or if there's any sign of diaper rash. We can also use the more colorful pocket diaper covers and put a pre-fold inside them if we wish, and once we've managed to properly strip the pocket diapers so they actually absorb liquid we'll have all the combinations available.
