Tough Guy

On Sunday we took Edward to the big Playpark at Skinner Butte, and found that they had the water features running.

One is a circular shower which switches on for a few minutes, then off for a few, then on again. Edward loves water and found this fascinating, and despite it being a coolish day (at first) insisted on getting close. We quickly stripped him down to his diaper and off he went:

Theer were plenty of other kids around who wanted to play in the water, but most were not allowed to as their parents hadn't brought a change of clothes. We had seversal changes of clothes, and Edward's swim trunks and towel in the van, so while Beth watched Ed I ran back to the van and fetched the necessary.

The above picture shows the second water feature; a hand pump sends water down the channel, then it drops through a slot and turns the water wheel. Ed has already played with the wheel a lot (he loves wheels) but now he got to get wet too, and as the water kept coming, eventually muddy, or at least coated in damp bark chips.

Exghausting the wheel's potential, he decided to crawl under it:

I'm not a big fan of crawling face down through wet, muddy and confined spaces, but it seemed to be something Edward just had to do.

Having got thoroughly encrusted, he set off for a wander round the play park, with Beth in hot pursuit. Eventually he went back to, and through the shower, and Beth had to chase him down.

We dried him off and dressed him in warm clothing, and then it was lunch time.

After lunch, and re-energised, Ed was off again.

This view, taken from partway up the biggest structure in the park, shows the water wheel in the foreground and the shower ring behind. To the left is a rocky watercourse, better for older kids, and to the right you can see parts of the Pioneer Village. Skinner Butte bulks large in the background.

Time for one final swing & giggle before heading home for a well earned nap.
