Awbrey Playpark

We have huge choice of playparks in Eugene/Springfield - more when schools are out and their play areas are left open for the public to enjoy. Awbrey Park is a public park, slightly too far for comfortable walking but an easy bike ride, and with enough parking for dozen vehicles.

I particularly like this park  because it is surrounded by trees, providing lots of shade in hot weather. There are several tables with benches set around a three ring design, each ring containing several play structures. It is common to have family groups at several of the tables, while the children play, and being American, and thus open and friendly, it is easy to chat with new people about your kids and what they're up to.

I ought to get a picture of this entire structure as it is unique in my playpark experience.

It comprises three vertical panels with circular holes in each (with thoughtfully placed rubber guards on the lower part of each ring). Two of the rings are linked by a 1/4 barrel sort of affair, while the ramaining ring is connected to the second ring by a pair of sloped areas, with hand and foot grips.

An enterprising and ambitious 14 1/2 month old can thus climb up the slope and into the barrel, or be placed in the barrel and see how quickly they can escape down the slope. Imagination could make this structure a castle, submarine, or whatever is required.

Another rare but not unique play structure is the wobbly bridge.

The six sections of this bridge are linked to each other but only the end ones are secured to the overall climbing frame. Thus they move as you walk across, making an interesting changing slope for an Edward to negotiate.

On this occasion he chose to abandon the Gatorade bottle (don't worry, he doesn't drink Gatorade yet) and continue his journey on all fours.
