Independent Mobility & Entering the Second Dimension

Despite all the distractions of teething, and a snuffly cold that Edward has been fighting for over a week (and both his parents have too), on the evening of the 1st November Edward performed on camera his first true crawl - only a couple of hand replants, but all the necessary motions and coordination are there. We've had a few repeats since so he's got the goods, he just needs the correct motivation to bring out his full repertoire.

If he can get to something with a roll or a lunge that's what he'll do, if he needs to achieve more distance then a little crawling comes in. So Edward has a two dimensional world to explore. One dimension was lying on his back (or front) and just playing with whatever we handed him, or fell to hand.

The second dimension involves moving around on the floor to achieve a particular toy (and everything qualifies as a toy). The third dimension is the vertical plane. Edward can sit up by himself now, and does so to better view his surroundings, or to play with both hands free. What he can't do yet is lift himself to a stand to cruise round furniture. He has the leg strength to continue standing if placed in that position, but he's very wobbly.
