Actual conversations are now possible, on the cusp of her fourth birthday. A year ago, although she had hundreds of signs (mostly for nouns), she only spoke twelve words because persistent ear fluid prevented her from hearing anything clearly. I took a speech sample every three months, starting with the day before the surgery. This is the last one that I will officially label a speech sample. The other ones were posted on this blog in previous months if you want to see them again and marvel at her rapid progress.
She's still in speech therapy at daycare, but her therapist is very pleased with how rapidly she is catching up. The therapist is starting to shift their focus from obtaining language to perfecting it, with work on things like grammatical endings, pronouns and elocution of difficult sounds.
She's worked so hard. And now, she can tell us about it.
