Bubbin is the first toy Dom ever picked out for himself. We were at a Goodwill once, ages ago (maybe up to a year ago) and he lunged from my arms and grabbed the monkey from a shelf. So I had to get it, of course.
Then for ages he wasn’t interested anymore, but recently he has started picking up the monkey and playing with it, pointing out the facial features and saying what they are, and saying “kiss” and “hug” and administering them to the monkey. He calls it “Bubbin”, which Martin thinks is how he says monkey but I think he can say monkey if he wants to, and that Bubbin is the name he gave the monkey. Of course, now that WE are calling it Bubbin he’s getting reinforcement that that is what its name is.
Here’s a video of interaction…normally he is much chattier but I think the camera made him quiet.
I’ve just bought an ebay replacement for $10, juuust in case.
Eddie never attached to any stuffed animal, and never to anything else for more than a few weeks (but her attachments are STRONG while they last!), so this is new territory for us. She prefers mechanical things, and will carry around her preferred object constantly until she has completely exhausted its potential for new discovery, at which point it is abandoned. This tendency makes it exceedingly difficult to plan presents for her.
