Happy Third Birthday, Eddie!

Eddie is now three years old! And what a month it's been, too, what with her ear tubes and sudden explosion of language. Sometimes it has felt like she is younger than she really is this past year, since she was so silent and has tended toward silence since she was a baby. It's hard to remember that we don't have a toddler anymore, we have a preschooler, and there's a lot of complexity inside that little head. Now she is starting to be able to tell us about it, and Martin says a full sentence was startled out of Eddie when a toy was dropped, so maybe we will get more of that soon.

Anyway. Three!

We celebrated on Sunday, since Monday would be a school/work day.  It was a small party at home, but we had gifts and cupcakes and I think Eddie likes low-key things right now anyway.  She liked the cupcakes, and snarfled four of them, three quietly while we weren't looking.

Then on to presents, and for this we put the camera on a tripod.  Eddie was immediately fascinated with the tripod.  I think I should have gotten her a tripod for her birthday instead.  She's certainly interested in mechanical gears and other mechanisms.

Dominic helped her unwrap some books from Grandma and Grandpa,

...and some flashing lights (cool!) and a John Deere tractor set from Great-Uncle Fred,

...and later on helped her play with a Fisher Price car rampway from Daddy.

She also got a floor piano from me (like the one in the movie Big, but not as, uh, big) which she's not particularly keen on at the moment, and a Leapfrog alphabet drawing toy from me that seems to be one of her favourite items.  So I guess that evens out.

Later on we went out to some stores, and instead of walking around she decided to sit in a cart and play with her alphabet toy.  We must have tuckered her out, because we looked around and she'd fallen asleep sitting up!

Happy birthday, Eddie!  Here's to many more.  Have a cupcake!
