The latter end of September and first half of October we've had a mix of weather, but generally getting colder and wetter.
Most days this last week started cold & foggy, but the mist burns off by noon and we have blazing sunshine in the afternoon, though it's still cool when not in direct sunlight. This sometimes allows a degree of gardening, which in our garden usually means chopping things down or pulling them up.
As a defence against cabin fever we've joined local playgroup called Tiny Tots. Open 9am-4pm most weekdays, and 9:30am-2pm on Saturdays, this group is located in a church hall, and has two large rooms filled with toys and play structures to keep any toddler busy for hours. I take Edward there at least three times a week, and he explores, plays, and is starting to interact more with the other children (when any are there).

My ideal day these last few weeks has been to take Edward to Tiny Tots around 9am, until his nap is due at 11am. He can play and explore while I sit and read a book or chat with any other parents there, keeping one eye on him. Ed naps at 11am, often starting in the carseat on the way home, wakes again around 1pm for some lunch, and plays outside in the afternoon. We may just hang out in the garden, or hook up with a friend in a local playpark.
When the playpark ceases to amuse, there are always other objects in the street to examine and explore.
Ed checks out a John Deere digger with James
and then a mailbox.
When it's raining really hard it's sometimes fun to just go out in it
Ed's rain suit was getting a little tight, and he had no rain boots (wellingtons), so we upgraded to a bigger suit with plenty of growing room and some boots:
Ed likes to drum on our air conditioning fan with any handy stick-like objects.
A stroll in the rain is always... wet.
and puddles are fun when you have boots.
The malls also offer play opportunities
The baby gate we put up to stop Ed playing with the cat food is less then 100% effective, mostly because we have to leave a gap for the cats.
Maybe 50% effective
This final picture was taken on 25th September in Portland, were I was being converted to an American.
