This weekend we spent a couple of nights in Florence (Oregon, not Italy) at a beach side hotel called Driftwood Shores. It is a little pricier than we usually go for, but is the only hotel in Florence, and hence for at least 50 miles either direction along the coast, with all the rooms guaranteeing a beach view, since the whole hotel faces the sea. We chose a ground floor room, so our big French window gave us even quicker access to the beach.
This wasn't Edward's first trip to the coast, but as he gets older he seems to appreciate it more.
We arrived around 5pm on Friday, so we had a few hours of daylight to explore the beach.
When it got too cold on the beach we repaired to the heated indoor pool, with Eddie enjoying his new-found buoyancy.
On the Saturday Morning we had breakfast in the Hotel restaurant
and a brief spell on the beach before going to see the Rods 'n' Rhodies car show. The show is not part of this blog so I shall skip it for now.
I tested put a couple of big-wheeled r/c cars, while Beth and Edward collected shells and left footprints.
In the afternoon we returned to the beach and I set up some sandcastles for Ed to knock down.
If fact Edward proved remarkably undestructive, contenting himself with chipping away at the tops of the castles with a spade or two. The major destruction work was done by someone with a size 9 (US) hoof after we went back to the indoor pool.
All this fresh air and exercise proved exhausting
but also built a healthy appetite

On Sunday we had a date to see the start of the NFL season with some friends in the afternoon, but still had some time for the beach. It was very misty so we chose the right day to leave, but Ed still wanted a splash in the beach puddles with his old man.
