Almost. We have been given a few non-white pairs, but all the ones we bought ourselves are white. That way we can tell instantly when they are dirty and need changing, which is usually five seconds after we put them on Edward.
We decided early on that it would be easier to dress a wriggling baby or escaping toddler if we could just reach into the sock drawer, pull out two socks at random, and they were automatically a pair. Nice thinking.
Almost. Actually the socks we buy come in two color combinations in a single pack, white and grey, or white and navy blue. Not too bad, pull any three socks and two must match.
Almost. They also come with two, one or no stripes round the top. Hmm. So pull seven socks to be sure of a match.
Almost. They also come in long and short types, and for very good reasons I forget we got both types. So, thirteen socks and we've got at least one match.
Almost. We use 2-3T socks for daytime, and larger 4-5T socks for night time, so Edward's ankles aren't constricted at night. OK, so now it's twenty-five socks and we have at least one match? Right? Right?
Almost. Some of the socks have a tread pattern for extra grip, and some don't. So... forty-nine socks, and we have at least one matching pair.
This is how, with superior decision-making, we keep things simple in the Milner household. It also explains why Edward sometimes prefers to wear non-matching socks.
