After his one year pediatrician appointment we reported that Ed should have had two words in his vocabulary. I think I can now say he does, with da, dada, and daddy equal first, closely followed by ga or ca for cat.
The acid test is that he associates the sound with the thing in question. When Elbie or Ghost strolls into the bedroom and Ed looks at him and says 'Ga!" prior to toddling towards him, I'd say that's association. When Ed is sitting on the potty looking at me and says 'Da' multiple times, with me repeating 'Da' or 'Daddy' in between, I'd say that's association.
Ed's weekly swim is going well. He is fearless in the water, and needs to be held carefully or he'd splosh off (and sink) frequently. Yesterday he fell on the concrete while toddling beside the pool and cut his lip, but within a very few minutes was recovered enough to be eager to be back in the water.
We have converted Edward to a 2-3-4 nap system: first nap is two hours after waking, then three after he wakes, then four. This should put him in line with James and other friends more frequently for joint outings, and allow him to attend events like Library storytime that he has been missing recently.
Now that Ed is very mobile, we're getting estimates for a gate across our driveway beside the house, so we can use the area for play with greater safety and privacy. We can still park two or three vehicles (we don't have three) across the driveway outside the gate if needs be, and one in the garage.
