Day Six - Nearly back to Birth Weight

A couple of night feedings, and Beth and I were anxiously waiting for Coleen's visit to see if Edward was still gaining weight. Good news is that he gained another 5oz since his last weighing, more than any of us were expecting, putting him just 1oz short of his birth weight which she is confident he will regain sometime today.

His jaundice is also all cleared, and we don't need to worry about setting a day or nightime feeding schedule anymore, he will let us know when he is hungry. In fact last night despite having set alarms for two feedings, both times I woke and heard him rooting before he cried. In fact this lad hardly ever cries, so quick are we at anticipating his needs and fulfilling them, plus he lives by the solid British motto, Keep Calm  and Carry On.

A few presents arrived in the mail late yesterday after I had blogged. From Christina, a college friend of Beth's from her time at UCL, we received a swaddle/sleepsack, which enabled Ed to occupy his separate co-sleeper all night for the first time. This will almost certainly be his sleeping bag/swaddle every night until he grows too big for it.

Also in the picture on the left is Chuchi, a plush nightlight from our friend Emily, from whom we also received some board books and a pack of boogiewipes for Ed's nose. Board books are always great for reading with infants, and wiping away boogers is better than leaving them be.

After Coleen left we were both on a bit of a high, and as Ed was also in a passive alert phase, we got a bit artsy with our photographs.

From my parents we received a lovely bouquet of flowers for Beth and a Teddy Bear for Edward, his first official bear, so I guess I maybe get the balloon.

Beth's babystation. She's not allowed to tackle the stairs until Friday, so we have various items to hand to make her bedrest more tolerable, to wit:

1) Chuchi as mentioned above. Beth likes things that glow or light up. Ed may get to play with this one day.
2) laptop, keeping in touch with the world
3) empty food plate, previously filled by me (bagels and cream cheese this time)
4) bed remote control; we have a split King mattress with head/foot raising capability, very useful
5) iPod touch, also for keeping in touch, plus entertainment
6) phone, which doubles as an intercom when I don't hear the baby monitor (because I left it in a different room)
7) rattle; Ed's a bit young yet, but you never know
8) book, for entertainment purposes
9) bottle of water, for hydration
10) PBA, the personal baby assistant for tracking daipers, feeds and sleep.
11) lots of cloths and flannels for potential dribbles and stuff
12) Edward, well duh.
13) Various pillows for support, including a boppy for feeding time. This will work better when Beth's not sitting up in bed.
